The main focus in our studies was the improvement of the properties of polyesters by inventing new structures and thus to meet the stringent requirements of biomedical, nanotechnologies, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.

Aiming this scope, we obtained innovative and remarkable results. New α-hydroxy acids and lactides were synthesized and further used in the preparation of nanostructures (mostly superparamagnetic) based on polyesters. We prepared new polymers that have special structure and properties with low costs, using “green-chemistry” methods. Furthermore, we synthesized starting materials with applicatory entities useful for functionalization of the polymer-coated nanostructures. We intend to use the materials obtained throughout this project for various applications in the water treatment field and medicine. Regarding the environmental protection aspect, these nanostructured materials will be integrated in electrodes, which will be used for the detection of different organic and inorganic pollutants.

The achieved results were published in 5 scientific journals with 5.687, 3.553, 2.07, 1.15 impact factor, two patents and disseminated at 7 international conferences.
