The main objective of this project is to demonstrate the scalability of cat codes to perform universal and fault-tolerant quantum computation. This will start by building a semi- protected qubit: a qubit that suffers from bit flips, but with almost no phase flips.

The Romanian Team is coordinated Dr. Luiza Buimaga-Iarinca in the Department of Molecular and Biomolecular Physics (DMBF). Their role is to support the experimental side through numerical simulations.

ITIM will focus in particular on the oxygen-aluminum interface, which may provide insight into some of the decoherence mechanisms in regular aluminum junctions.
